How can we document and respond to attempts to discredit scientific evidence of global degradation?

Christine Fassert spoke on this topic at the ARCHIPEL scientific conference held June 20-23, 2022, in Grenoble.

This workshop offers a collective reflection on the specificities of scientifically demonstrating damage or risk and attributing it to one or more responsible parties in what is fundamental to scientific research: rigorously and honestly establishing the facts.

The session aims to take into account the attacks to which female researchers are exposed in the course of their work, to draw up a typology of these attacks, and then to engage in a discussion with a view to producing systematic epistemological and methodological responses.

To this end, the workshop proposes to combine disciplinary approaches and take a variety of fields into consideration: agriculture, energy/climate, armaments and nuclear energy, finance, health, etc. The primary ambition here is therefore to characterize and affirm what enables the affirmation and acceptance of robust knowledge, its conditions of validity and circulation, by clearly distinguishing it from other types of challenges.
