How is the issue of risk linked to that of security? How does this continuum unfold?
The focus of this session will be the triptych "risk/security/safety." Although related, these three terms do not necessarily refer to the same history or the same professional environments, nor do they have the same connotations. The relationship between these three terms, or even their confusion, invites us to reflect on the practical and political implications of this semantic operation. The objective of the session will be to explore the links between risk/security/safety in the railway and anti-terrorism fields, based on a presentation by:
Florent Castagnino, Senior Lecturer in Sociology – Institut Mines-Télécom.
Title of his presentation: 'From spitting to attacks': the threat to railway security in France (19th-21st centuries)
Jérôme Ferret, Sociologist, Senior Lecturer at Toulouse Capitole University, iDETCOM laboratory.
Title of his presentation: Public counterterrorism action in an exposed country: conduct, reflexivity & learning. A comparative perspective (Israel, France, USA, Spain)
