The guest speaker will be Detlef Müller-Mahn, Professor at the Institute of Geography at the University of Bonn, who will discuss his recent work on the concept of "riskscape."
A professor at the Institute of Geography at the University of Bonn, he specializes in the geography of development and risk. The book he edited, The Spatial Dimension of Risk: How Geography Shapes the Emergence of Riskscapes (Earthscan, 2013), develops the concept of "riskscape," which seeks to account for the spatial and temporal dynamics of risks, taking into consideration various practices related to risks as possible "points of view." Although his fieldwork is mainly focused on the Arab world, East Africa, and Korea, he is interested in a wide variety of risk situations, from climate change to political violence.
