Romain Garcier joins LATTS

Romain Garcier is visiting the LATTS as part of a CNRS delegation. A lecturer in geography at ENS Lyon, he works on the industrial environment and issues related to materials (technological materials, waste) within territories (Europe, USA). Since 2007, he has been conducting research on materials management in the nuclear industry (waste, uranium, dismantling of nuclear facilities).
Since 2018, three research initiatives have been launched on the metabolism of cities and societies: a project on the management of waste from the decommissioning of nuclear facilities (METROPOLITIN); a Franco-Canadian collaboration on waste (projects "Waste and peripheral territories: managing waste in New Caledonia and Nunavut" and "CETA and the future of waste"); a Franco-Chinese collaboration ("Metapolis: de|constructing Shanghai and Lyon," funded by JORISS and the Urban School of Lyon).
At LATTS, Romain Garcier will be discussing the empirical and theoretical aspects of these projects with the laboratory teams. The aim is to develop a robust theoretical framework for social metabolism and to design a future book.
