The next session of the seminar Inventing Greater Paris, Photographing Greater Paris, Visions of Metropolitan Construction, organized by Raphaële Bertho, Sonia Keravel, Frédéric Pousin, and Nathalie Roseau, will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the École des Ponts ParisTech.
The second installment in a series of seminars on photography in metropolitan areas, this study day will focus on the links between photography, urban planning, and archives. It will continue to explore the photographic commissions and productions that accompanied the construction of Greater Paris by comparing them, on the one hand, with international experiences of inventing metropolitan visions and, on the other hand, with the practices of creating and preserving photographic archives that bear witness to metropolitan development in the 20th century. Through their research on specific bodies of work and experiences, researchers specializing in the history of photography, urban planning, and landscape will engage in dialogue with those responsible for collections created with a view to preserving the photographic heritage of cities and territories.
The program for the day is available on the Inventer le Grand Paris website.
