Corinne Delmas

Bio

Corinne Delmas is a professor of sociology at Gustave Eiffel University and a researcher at LATTS. As a sociologist and political scientist, she conducts research into the state, expertise, work, professional relationships and groups, approached from the perspectives of knowledge and techniques, gender, mobility, health and the environment.

Her research has focused in particular on centres of expertise and learned societies, including the Académie des sciences morales et politiques, which was the subject of her PhD thesis and a book (Instituer des savoirs d’État, L’Harmattan, 2006), think tanks, training programmes (the École libre des sciences politiques, trade union training, legal training, etc.), managers’ unions (including the CFE-CGC), community and trade union campaigns on mental health in the workplace, trade union and work-related activities, and jobs and professions (including legal and notarial professions). The social uses of knowledge and issues of expertise are recurring themes in her research and lie at the heart of several of her publications, including a comprehensive monograph (Sociologie politique de l’expertise, Découverte, 2011).

She is currently studying the legal professions in France. Having begun with HDR research on notaries and a book on this profession (Les notaires en France. Des officiers de l’authentique entre héritage et modernité, PUR, 2019), her current research focuses on contemporary changes – both socio-demographic (in particular the increasing number of women in the profession and gender relations) and socio-technical (including changes in legal jobs and work linked to AI) – within the legal professions.
