The Knowledge Economy: A Metropolitan Dynamic?
Le Moniteur, 2015, 304 p.
economie_connaissanceThe appeal of the knowledge economy to local authorities has recently been reflected in the launch of numerous urban projects in several cities. Although covering a very broad range of public actions, from the innovation economy to the creative economy, including training and education, all of these projects are intended to be emblematic of the knowledge economy and/or society.
Beyond the necessary definition of these concepts, this book has three objectives: to clarify the status of the knowledge economy in territorial development and the process of metropolization; to identify its place and challenges in urban strategies; and to assess its impact on the urban "fabric" based on examples of projects.
Emphasizing the need to break down the knowledge economy into its various components, it addresses these issues through four thematic areas: the knowledge economy and growth dynamics; the innovation economy; the creativity economy; and the knowledge society. It contributes to undermining any deterministic view of the relationship between the knowledge economy and metropolization and highlights the role of public policy in the directions taken.
