Le retour des villes dissidentes (The Return of
Dissident Cities) Editions PUCA, 2018, 84 p.
Donald Trump's arrival in the White House in January 2017 and his first initiatives on migration and environmental policy sparked opposition in a number of US cities and states. The resulting conflicts are part of the implementation of US foreign policy.
Locally, this opposition has led to the reaffirmation of a "sanctuary movement" that is attempting to initiate dissident strategies. These strategies are based on a range of controversies that relate to three categories of political analysis: partisan competition (politics
), the effectiveness of public policies (policies
), and the values and principles (polity
) at stake.
The analysis of these dissident strategies presented in this book is complemented by an examination of the London mayor's reaction to Brexit. His diplomatic counteroffensive, aimed at affirming London's "openness" to the world, is directed both at investors and tourists on the economic level and at the spirit of tolerance of his constituents.
