Mariana Cyrino: Energy renovation initiatives and resident usage expertise

The integration of residents' expertise and consideration of their living habits in project processes is currently experiencing a significant resurgence of interest in scientific and professional circles. This concern, which emerged in the 1980s, has been given new impetus since the mid-2000s in light of the energy challenges posed by the ecological transition. The results of efforts to promote energy renovation show that there are significant gaps between predicted energy efficiency and actual post-operation values. It is therefore essential to take into account the specific characteristics of residents and their expertise in energy use in energy renovation projects. While the concept of "usage control" had already emerged in the 1990s, in recent years we have seen the emergence of a new activity known as Usage Control Assistance (UCA), carried out by professionals from a wide range of backgrounds (architects, designers, sociologists, etc.) offering services in this area or responding to requests from urban developers or, more specifically, in the field of housing. This thesis project aims to contribute to a better understanding of the growing interest of a variety of operators and professionals in AMU practices. It will examine how this type of service is viewed by its instigators, as well as the results it produces.
