Bio

He holds a PhD in urban planning and spatial planning, having completed his thesis with CIFRE funding; his research focuses in particular on professional practices in the field of operational urban planning in areas facing challenges.

This research focus leads him to examine both the socio-spatial dynamics of these areas and a variety of projects, depending on the contexts and challenges faced by those involved.

As part of his doctoral work, he has thus examined housing renewal policies in run-down historic neighbourhoods of shrinking cities (Mulhouse, Roubaix, Saint-Étienne) and the characterisation of the socio-spatial dynamics of these areas using the concept of urban decline.

He is currently involved in the following research projects:

  • “POPSU Territoires” with the Ambert Livradois-Forez inter-municipal authority and the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park. This project focuses on developing approaches to revitalise town centres in the face of vacancy within a context of population decline. It is led by Yoan Miot and Sarah Dubeaux.
  • “Social housing providers and buyers in the face of the commercialisation of social housing in the Hauts-de-France region”. This work forms part of the call for research projects led by the Union Sociale de l’Habitat on the sale of social housing. The project posits that the commodification of social housing increases inequalities, particularly territorial ones, between tight and relaxed housing markets. The project is led by Yoan Miot and Cécile Vignal
  • “Financing of public facilities in urban development projects”. A project within the research programme of the Local Finance Network, led by Joël Idt, Yoan Miot’s research focuses on the Dunkirk conurbation.
  • “Allocation of social housing, settlement patterns and inter-municipal cooperation”, led by Valérie Sala-Pala and Rémi Dormois. He is working on a site in the Dunkirk conurbation.
